The Accident-Prone Tourist

I attended a small gathering of professional writers in Las Vegas April 25-29. On the 26th, I headed off on my own to Vision Tours for a 14-hour bus trip to Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon. I've wanted to see the GC all my life, so this was an exciting day for me.

Unfortunately, I missed my bus at the hotel, had to hop in a cab for a hair-raising trip across town to try to get to VisionAir in time, and missed the bus again. At that point, the tour company could have told me "tough luck," but luckily for me, they didn't do that. Instead, they emptied one of the small buses, and driver Russ hauled me up to the far side of Hoover Dam, where the bus I was registered to be on was waiting for me.

After that rocky start, the tour went smoothly and I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Kudos to LookTours, Vision Air and especially to drivers Russ, Don and (heaven help me, nice as he was, I am only vaguely sure the driver who did such an excellent job at Grand Canyon National Park was named Pat).

There is no way to do justice to the Grand Canyon. No photo, no video, no words can describe the beauty of this "big hole in the ground." The best I can do is to show you the photos I took that day and present my own impressions.

Next time (?) I'm taking the train

The next are simply views of the Grand Canyon
